Does it seem right that the wire would have burned through the way it did with just a nick?Īnyway, just wanted to sanity check the wire size before I made the purchase. Does that sound right? I pull up the line (3rd time in 6 months ) and sure enough I find a spot in one of the 220v bundle that is burned through. I go outside to weld, and everything on the 220 line is dead. I never lost power to the 220 line, and at the time everthing seems fine, so I reburied everthing and went along my merry way.

At the time I did notice a couple nicks, which I repaired with electrical tape. I had not buried the 220 line in conduit, so of course I ended up with multiple nicks in the 220 line when I dug it up to put the 120 line down with it. The 120v line was buried in a different area than the 220v line, so my thinking was let me dig up the 220 line, and bury the 120 line along with (on top of) it so they are both in the same location and I know where both are buried. This was an older line, and after digging it up I found the break in this line and repaired it. There is a separate 120v line that also runs to the garage, and about 3 months after running the 220v line the 120 line started tripping the breaker. So with her encoragement I hired an electrician and I put in a 220 line in the garage. Unfortunetly (or maybe fortunately) this was usually on the weekends when the wifage needed the dryer. Up to this point I have an extention cord I would run to the house and plug into the dryer plug everytime I wanted to weld.
